The Virginia Health and Human Services Committee advanced ten Senate bills spanning Medicaid billing training, assisted living surveillance, mandatory reporting expansions, drug site cleanup, and food allergen labeling — with the most notable friction emerging over a waterworks receivership bill whose own subcommittee chair voted against it, and a restaurant allergen bill that drew a 14-to-6 full committee vote.

Controversies

SB683 – Chair Hope's opposition to the waterworks receivership bill she was required to present

Chair Hope explicitly stated she was one of the four subcommittee members who voted against SB683 and asked another member to make the motion to report the bill rather than moving it herself. No named members argued the opposing position on the record, and the bill was ultimately reported 18 to 2 at the full committee level.
