The members will rise and be led in prayer by Reverend Burt Cloud, senior pastor, Sterling United Methodist Church, Sterling, and remain standing for the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, which will be led by the delegate from Alexandria, Delegate Herring. As you are so inclined, please join with me in prayer. Holy and merciful one, we thank you for the gift of our homes and our communities. And we thank you for how you woke us from our sleep this day and called us to this place and this moment to serve. We pray for all who are part of this work. From delegates and pages, aides, staff, clerks, Capitol police officers and facility staff, and food service workers, analysts, reporters, lobbyists, constituents, families and guides, help each of us to live into the plan and the purpose that you have dreamed for our lives and for this moment.
