First bill we'll call today is HB 261186, the Sunset Regulation of cash bonding agents. Representative Soer thank you Mr. Chair and members of the committee. House Bill 1186 is a sunset bill. It's one where we review every few years what's been happening. There's currently calls for it to be re reviewed for bail bonding agents in 13 years. Our plan is to run an amendment to make that eight years. You might be asking, well why do we need this at all? Regulating bail bond agents serves two important functions. First, it ensures that bail bond agents have fulfilled the majority of minimum statutory requirements to practice in Colorado, including the posting of a $50,000 cash qualification bond with the Division of Insurance. The purpose of cash qualification bonds is to pay the court the amount of bail established in order to release from custody if a defendant fails to attend his or her court proceedings.
