Rep. Keltie accused AG Weiser's department of bearing responsibility for crimes committed by people released using parole software he alleged has a 98% error rate, stating 'Those crimes lie with you. That is your responsibility' and asking 'Why do you believe that you should keep your job with the state of Colorado after having this happen on your watch?' AG Weiser responded that 'the parole board is the one who manages these issues' and redirected the questions to the State Board of Parole, which would appear the following day. Director Lund later disputed that the 98% figure applied to CHARIS, stating the figure relates to 'the parole community risk tool, which is entirely different. It's filled out by the parole board and is entirely managed by the Department of Corrections.'

“Given that the DOC's risk tool has admitted to a 98% error rate, which that means that we are putting violent criminals back out on the street and that we know and that we know of that have committed violent crimes, even murder, because of this tool being used by your department.”

We are already running a little bit behind schedule on time and I want to recognize that I know this committee will have lots of questions as we go through the process. In the interest of making sure that everybody is heard and that the process is as fair as possible, we're going to do one question per member with one follow up, unless, you know, we don't have takers and we have more time to go around. We're going to start with the State Auditor's office, but before we kick off. Chair Weissman, anything to add? Sure. Thank you, Mr. Chair. You know, members, we do want to be respectful of everyone's time who will be coming before us…
