The House Judiciary Committee held an extended hearing on HB 26-1021, the Second Amendment Protection Act, which would repeal dozens of Colorado gun laws enacted since 2013. Dozens of witnesses testified on both sides; no vote was taken and the hearing remained ongoing at adjournment.
Rep. Brooks argued district courts are applying Bruen to strike down laws without historical analog, while Rep. Clifford countered: 'Bruin is also being found the other direction as often as it's being found in the direction that you're talking about. So for the record, let's keep it straight.' Rep. Espenoza pressed Brooks on whether laws being repealed had already survived constitutional challenges in other states; Brooks acknowledged he had not compared the statutory text side by side.
