Thank you, madam Chair and committee members. Today we are bringing Senate Bill 26093 concerning ensuring compliance with workers compensation insurance coverage requirements. Senate Bill 26093 standardizes the requirement providing proof of workers compensation insurance coverage across all local governments in the state, thus supporting compliant businesses and ensuring workers are complete are properly covered. The bill stipulates that local governments verify workers compensation insurance through CDL's existing verification tool on their website. Yes, CDL has a website available where local government staff can simply plug in the policy number and confirm coverage. While it is already unlawful to not cover workers with workers compensation insurance, this unlawful behavior is often not caught until after. Until after someone gets hurt on the job. If a complaint is filed to the licensing or permitting agency against an employer for a policy that has lapsed, expired, or, or is fraudulent, the agency may investigate and suspend or revoke the permit license upon confirmation or lack of proper coverage.
